The biggest thing I would change, and it would be more economical for the company as well, is use velcro instead of snaps. Infinately more adjustable, lighter, less expensive, no metal allergy worries, no sharp edges on the inside, and no bulky snaps at or about the same level as the belt if you're wearing one. Wins all around. I especially love this being 100% made in the USA.

I met John at a music festival and chatted with him about how I wished there was an option for those of us that are allergic to the metal snaps that come on most kilts. He set me up with a beautiful custom made purple 17" kilt with no snaps and no metal, instead it is fastened with sturdy velcro. I've worn it a bunch of times, and really love the comfort, shape, fabric & the way the sizing can be adjusted. It's my new favorite article of clothing, I can't recommend StumpTown Kilts enough!!

My camouflage kilts is the perfect item to travel with and ease of an outfit!! Great quality and most definitely will be ordering more!!

First, my first kilt was a utilikilt. It was great but HEAVY, so I didnt wear it very often. Then my friend Brew brought me to STK, and I bought my new first kilt - I should have started here. This kilt is light, and doesnt rub (like the other one did, it was so heavy it would rub raw all the dangly parts) and for the most part is the most comfortable thing I own.

My Only discomfort (making this 9 instead of 10/10) is the snaps on the inside at the belt line sometimes are a bit sharp/rough on the skin, which doesnt happen if i'm wearing a shirt tucked in, but when wearing only the kilt, sometimes they are sharp.

The stitching quality is top notch, great strong but still soft materials, the variety of pockets and design - getting to put the pockets where I want is really excellent. Big front hidden pocket too.
I recommend this without reserve, if you're considering getting one, get it from STK.

There is nothing quite like rocking a well-made kilt. I have one large STK slate blue kilt that sees almost daily use for 5 years and is still holding up beautifully. It's an essential piece of clothing that goes with any top I have. The rivets and care to the sewing make this a pleasure to wear and the only kilt brand I would want. Good job STK. Saving my $ for the next St. Paddy's Day kilt sale!

I own three kilts from different companies. This one is by far the best! Durable, comfortable, swings just right--just as good sitting as hiking. (One of my other kilts has a wonderful plaid and exceptional soft material, holds it's pleats well--but rides up in the weirdest way when you sit down).
I'm seriously considering purchasing another Stumptown kilt in a different color. I love the black one I have, but it shows dirt. I may go for the olive.
I wear my kilt all Summer and well into the Fall.
Truly awesome kilt! I'd love one in a faded plaid--that's a suggestion!
By the way--I get admiring comments from women in the streets

Ok so hear me out, I get the cost is a bit of a shocker for some but I am here to tell you that I’ve had my first kilt from STK for going on 6 years now and after wearing it about 2-3 times a week it still looks as good as the day I got it. I can't say that about the majority of my other clothes so I am super happy. Couldn't ask for two of the most chill guys ever, I convinced my brother-in-law to get one and he's hooked. Great quality, amazing owners so yeah I can't say I have any complaints.

Listen I don't give out 10 ratings everyday. I got my first STK almost 5 years ago and it is still my favorite kilt. I have the Pinstripe 16 pleat kilt and wouldn't trade it for any other kilt. It is amazing and has held up through many vacations and daily activities. I almost exclusively wear kilts when I travel and it has been to a lot of places.

Jonny is the best. I had a couple of questions and he answered them and solved a problem ahead of time for my newest kilt that I just ordered. I know that he gives that type of service to every customer but he makes you feel like you are his most important.
The STK Kilt is as I have said before the best kilt around. I am a big guy and these kilts look good on me. My wife loves the way the STK's look on me better than any of the other Kilts I have. Yep I have purchased several others and just find them lacking in so many areas.

Let me talk about my first and oldest kilt. The Fabric is smooth and moves so well. THE SWAY IS REAL! It has no fraying or splitting at the pleats or anywhere that there would be stress and tension. The Pocket loops are just as they were the day I bought it. The Pockets themselves are great. Jonny gave me a special order pocket for my oversized cell phone (Not sure he still does those).

My new kilt is just as I expected and then some. Got the Forest Green Kilt in the 16 Pleat and it fits me perfectly. I have lost a little weight since my first kilt. The craftsmanship and quality can't be matched in any of the other kilts of this type that I have or have seen. The 10 rating is my thanks to Stumptown Kilts for such an amazing product and the customer service. Keep it up and I will see you soon for my next order.

Picked up my first kilt back in April when we were visiting to go to Kinkfest.

I cant be more pleased! The customer service provided to help me choose the perfect size and color was amazing. The quality and durability are top-notch. The pocket in the front is a godsend. It never fails to get me compliments. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend.

I love my new kilt! A couple of us "ladies in waiting" wanted matching kilts at Kelso Highland Games. They found us colors that we loved and helped coordinate matching pockets too, so that we looked like we were our own sports team. They looked good on all of us, and we could work in them too! We tore down the pavilion and loaded the trailer in comfort and style. I would absolutely get a few more colors. The fabric is durable, the stitching is quality, and the pockets can be placed anywhere on the belt.

I've been eyeing STK for some time but was afraid to blind mail order without a fitting. I finally made it down and wanted to be the first Alaskan to have an STK, alas, that was not to be as someone beat me to it. At any rate, the experience with The Guy, getting fitted and walking out with my new kilt was awesome. Love my kilt! The quality is absolutely amazing and the craftsmanship is over the top. Can't wait to get my next one or five!

I love the fact that THE GUY (John) who made my kilt is right there. He listened to what my kilt plans were (live in it for a week of hiking around Kaua’i), had me fitted in seconds, and had some really great advice on length vs calf rub. This summer, I test drove the kilt on a couple of long road rucks around Oregon (25# pack, boots, 52 miles in 24 hrs and 20# pack, sneakers, 17.5 miles in 6.5 hrs), came back in at the last second before my trip, added another sizing snap and another utility pocket, and then took off to Kaua’i. Everywhere I go, I get complements on it. (Camouflage, 65/35 Poly/Cotton) I got back from my trip and immediately went back to Stumptown Kilts to buy another one. (Caramel, Organic Cotton/Canvas Duck) I’m headed back to Kaua’i in less than two weeks, and I’ll be in my new STK!

Simply put, Johnny runs a great business, with the very best product, made locally. He helped me to get perfectly sized in the shop and that was essential because I would have been wrong on my own. I absolutely love my new kilt and cannot wait to join the rare folks wearing the proper garment at a future Flogging Molly or Dropkick's show, as well my local Highlander Games in Kelso.

The feeling of being liberated from pants legs is amazing and the looks I have already gotten are priceless and worth the pride of wearing what I want and representing a culture, that has pride in being an individual, when we have to be a sheep too much of the normal day.

Thanks Johnny for your perfect service and pride in running a great business. Get a STK, because the fit, quality and total value are priceless.

First saw a STK worn by a friendly bartender. I immediately noticed how modern and practical it looked. As I felt I had finally found a piece of garment that I really wanted for myself (which is a rare occurrence) I had an in depth conversation with the Bartender who revealed he was kilt obsessed and owning 10 different types. When came to recommend one he mentioned STK without a pause. I ordered mine and started to wear it with great fanfare and to many great looks and comments. I have now ordered a second one for a friend and will continue to proselytize and convert more of my tribe to this great kilt...

Awesome kilts, awesome service, and a chance to throw a brew down with Jonny. How about them apples?

Just purchased my first kilt ever and I love it! I'll be purchasing another one soon. The women's XS fits great. I love that these are made in the US, not in a sweatshop overseas. The quality is excellent. Money well spent!

I had an excellent experience buying a kilt from StumpTown kilts. They took good care of me, answered all my questions, didn't rush me, and the price was great, especially considering how high quality the kilts are. The only downside is that I'm pretty sure this kilt will last forever, so that could discourage repeat business. But, there's no rule against having more than one kilt...

STK is the best in the game! I can't speak highly enough regarding their product, as well as their service. They are as hands on or hands off as you prefer. You can order online and have a quality kilt shipped to your door or you can pop in for a personal fitting and fashion advice from John himself. Be sure to schedule ahead through their contact links on their website so you can have his personal attention. I actually purchased my Black Kilt with Brass Buttons and multiple pocket add-ons 2 or 3 years ago now. It has been durable, easy to care for, and a mainstay to my Pirate event look. Over the years I have changed in size and it did develop a slight tear in one of the pleats. I had occasion to stop by STK's new location on Alberta St in North Portland and thought I'd bring my kilt along for a little advice. After speaking with John, he let me know there was a type of stitch he could put in the tear to prevent further damage and he offered to add a couple custom snaps to help with my size change. All this for a reasonable $20 service charge. What I found to be so impressive was that he genuinely seemed to have a care enough to want to see me kilted up for years to come. It wasn't MY problem, it was OUR problem to solve and how could we do it? That kind of ownership of craft is hard to come by these days and I am happy to continue to be a loyal customer for years to come. Take advantage of their online mailing list and receive notifications a couple times a year when they run specials, bringing the price point for one of their fantastic kilts down to a steal of a price.

I purchased my first Stumptown kilt in the fall of 2017. I now own four of them and also bought one for my girlfriend. Don’t waste money on other budget utility kilts. Stumptown kilts offers superb craftsmanship and customer service. The kilt construction is unmatched with the expandable waistband, crisp box pleats, and riveted pressure points. The large front apron pocket is very useful in addition to the removable pocket(s), and the kilt material is comfortable yet does not wrinkle easily. Jonny has been a pleasure to do business with throughout my purchase experiences and provided excellent, hassle-free service when I needed an exchange. I highly recommend STK!

Just purchased a new STK for my wedding. I emailed Johnny the day before with my request and he had it ready to go this morning when I showed up. Their customer service is 10/5 stars and the quality of the kilt speaks for itself. I purchased my first STK 5 years ago - I now own 4 - and it still looks great even with how hard I've treated it. Will definitely be back to buy another.
